I WORK in Walmer and a good couple of months ago a very polite man started coming around begging, so when others at work and I had supper left over from the previous night, we'd bring it for this man.
A few weeks later he started coming around and asking to wash cars for some cash. We encouraged this and allowed him to use this opportunity to make some cash for himself by washing our cars here at work. He does a superb job washing and vacuuming, and cleaning the tyres, initially using our own soap and buckets, etc.
After a few weeks of washing cars here, he had made some extra cash and bought himself his own bucket, sponges and soap to start up his own little business of washing cars around the Walmer area.
He has planted some flowers in our pots here at work and is doing some gardening, which is new to him – but he's giving it his absolute best!
I think his story is a really inspirational one. If I were to read more stories like this in the paper once in a while, it would really make my day – I'm sure many other readers would agree.
