THANK you for the wonderful opportunity given to Retina SA to be a stall holder at The Herald Clover Kids Expo. The Retina team had a busy time answering question with regard to eye problems, and where to source information and assistance.
Participating in an event such as this is a humbling experience. One gets to share in so many stories that affect peoples lives, but how wonderful that we are able to listen and to provide the much needed awareness and education on eyes.
Retina SA sold 313 (30 books) of The Herald VW Christmas Cheer Fund competition tickets. Donations into our collection cans totalled R491.
A special moment for our team was to share in the delight of a group of our underprivileged partially sighted kids who attended the expo. Our social worker, Buli Mkalelwa, accompanied these six youngsters, giving them the chance to participate in delights that they do not often experience or see.
The joy and smiles of happiness will be long remembered!
Spec Savers screened 220 children and approximately 10 adults. The focus of the screening was on the children.
What was very special for us was the fact that many children who had an eye screening had quite serious eye problems. If we were not doing screening and eye education, there is a strong possibility that the problem would not have been identified until too late to correct easily or at all.
Once again, thank you for the privilege to have been a stall holder at this prestigious event.
