Sithembile Msutwana, 40, a dangerous prisoner who killed a guard and escaped from Livingstone Hospital in 2010, was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Port Elizabeth High Court on Tuesday (08/10/13).
On Monday the court heard how a gun was smuggled to the St Albans maximum security prisoner in a toilet at Livingstone Hospital – and how Msutwana shot the guard and left him lying bleeding on the ground as he made his escape.
Msutwana was already serving a life sentence at the time of the murder and his escape.
