NWU-PUKKE saw off the challenge of NMMU in Potchefstroom on Monday night to maintain their unbeaten Varsity Cup Netball status.
The match got off to a tense start as the sides traded goals and fought hard for possession.
Although the Madibaz were in determined mood, the class of the home side and the support of a packed crowd saw NWU wear them down.
Pukke established a cushion and took a 15-11 advantage into the first break, which stretched to 34-21 by half time.
The visitors staged something of a fightback in the final period but it was not enough to stop Pukke from claiming a bonus point as the home side sealed a 57-38 victory in the end.
Next week Pukke will welcome UJ to Potchefstroom and NMMU will be back at home in Port Elizabeth, where they will take on TUT.
- UFS-Kovsies took no prisoners in their record 89-13 Varsity Netball demolition of UCT.
- UP-Tuks showed good composure to record a solid 61-50 Varsity Netball victory over UJ in Pretoria.
- Maties marched to a comfortable 70-27 victory over TUT, who were outclassed in Stellenbosch.
