BORDER batsman Vuyisa Makhaphela looks set to make his limited overs debut for the Chevrolet Warriors against the Knights in their opening Momentum One-day Cup fixture in Kimberley on Saturday.
The 26-year-old right-hander did play a four-day game for the Warriors last season but is now likely to open the batting with the in-form Jon-Jon Smuts in the Diamond City.
Makhaphela will form part of a strong lineup which is likely to see Colin Ingram at three, Ryan Bailey at four, captain Davy Jacobs at five and Christiaan Jonker at six.
"Vuyisa was part of our squad last season and he's now looking to make his debut in 50-over cricket," coach Piet Botha said yesterday.
"It's a big opportunity for him. It's quite an exciting competition to be part of. He has done well for Border in the 50-over campaign as well with some good scores at a good rate. So, hopefully he can convert that kind of form onto the big stage."
Botha said he was satisfied with the look of his squad.
"It's very balanced. Thankfully there are no injuries so we are able to pick our best team." After the game in Kimberley, the Warriors move on to Potchefstroom for their match against the Lions on Wednesday followed by a Friday fixture against the Cobras in East London.
The Warriors squad: Davy Jacobs (capt), Christiaan Jonker, Michael Price, Ryan Bailey, Aya Gqamane, Jon-Jon Smuts, Colin Ingram, Vuyisa Makhaphela, Basheer Walters, Simon Harmer, Rusty Theron, Athi Dyili, Wayne Parnell, Andrew Birch.
řEP Cricket's election process will now take place on October 26 under the supervision of CSA.
