HUMEWOOD'S David Konzani strolled to a comfortable three- shot victory in the Yonke Installations Uitenhage Prestige Open at Uitenhage Golf Club last weekend.
The 53-year-old, who made his debut for Eastern Province last month, was streets ahead of the chasing pack in the morning round, carding a superb gross score of five-under 67, a remarkable feat off his three handicap.
He slipped to a 75 in the afternoon but that was still good enough for a two-under-par tournament total of 142.
PE Golf Club's Fezekile Kana was second, following rounds of 72 and 73.
The leading scores were:
142 – David Konzani (Humewood) 67 75
145 – Fezekile Kana (PEGC) 72 73
146 – Mzuyanda Zingela 73 73
148 – Andre van Staden (PEGC) 75 73
149 – Ryno Ferreira (Uitenhage) 77 72 Andile Adam (PEGC) 76 73 Johan Vorster (WGC) 74 75
150 – Mike Holden (Humewood) 78 72 Sieg Human (Uitenhage) 76 74 Hando Brophy (PEGC) 74 76
151 – Naldo Claassen (Uitenhage) 77 74 Charl de Kock (Humewood) 76 75 Chad Evans (PEGC) 76 75
THE EP Strokeplay tournament will be held at PE Golf Club on November 2 and 3.
A contingent of about 30 players is expected from outside the province so there will be a limited field, with national ranking points being on offer.
Eastern Cape players are urged to get their entries for the event in as early as possible.
