THE long-awaited fraud trial of well known Eastern Cape attorney Michael Randell was yesterday postponed to December, after he was forced to appoint new legal counsel.
The trial hit a snag last month after Randell's legal team of attorney Danie Oelofse and advocate Johan Wessels withdrew due to a conflict of interests.
The two had briefly represented Randell's former co-accused and ex-Greenwood High School principal Patrick Shelver.
Because Shelver, who pleaded guilty and was convicted of the fraud in January, refused to waive his attorney-client privilege, Oelofse and Wessels would not have been able to cross-examine him at Randell's trial.
