EASTERN Cape schools will be hit hard by the cut in teaching posts – with some schools set to lose as many as 22 teachers – if the Education Department's list of how the posts will be distributed is anything to go by.
School principals in the province will find out today what the loss of teaching posts will mean for their schools. According to the list, hundreds of schools across the province could shed a large number of posts.
According to a "pre-final" version of a document issued to district heads and unions this week, the teacher-pupil average will increase from 28 pupils a teacher to 32.
