Many South Africans have fallen victim to a massive breach of bank card data, especially those with a fondness for fast foods.
TechCentral reported on Tuesday (15/10/13) that the South African Police Service, Interpol and Europolwere all involved in a multinational investigation to bring a syndicate, or syndicates, responsible for the breach to book.
A strain of malware known as Dexter was used to infiltrate fast food restaurants' payment terminals. Word is KFC has been the hardest hit. As a result, South African banks have suffered tens of millions of rands in losses.
On Wednesday The Payments Association of South Africa said there is "no undue cause for concern by cardholders" but called for users to report any suspicious transactions to their banks.
