PROPERTY owners, don't be fooled when the metro advertises a rates increase of 9% or 8%. Make sure you check the increase in the municipal valuation of your property as the metro for some strange reason increased the municipal value of my property by – wait for it – 36%!
This equates to an extra R1300 rates on this property alone. I did not notice the increased valuation and I did not object.
I am now forced to pay this increased amount for the next year. As far as I am concerned, this is a very subtle and underhand way of doing things to get more money from the taxpayers.
What would justify a 36% increase in property value?
