A 59-YEAR-OLD construction worker was killed in crossfire yesterday when two suspects shot at police in a suspected attempted robbery.
The police were following up on a drowning report in New Brighton when the suspects started shooting at them.
Police spokesman Captain Andre Beetge said the worker, who cannot be named until his next of kin has been informed, had been talking to the police when he was shot.
"The police ducked for cover as soon as the shots rang out but the worker was shot and died at the scene."
He said the suspects were on the run. – Thulani Gqirana
