EASTERN Cape principals are blatantly inflating pupil numbers to extract more funding from the Education Department.
This was uncovered by a pupil verification process this year which found more than 100000 "ghost" pupils in the province's schools.
The Education Department allocates funds to schools based on pupil numbers. Principals score extra cash in their pockets when they inflate pupil figures as their salaries are determined by the size of the schools they manage.
