A NELSON Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) lecturer chosen to serve as a member of the Research Policy Expert Forum, says he is humbled by the appointment.
Hugh Bartis, head of NMMU's department of tourism, was appointed by Tourism Minister Marthinus van Schalkwyk.
The forum was established in response to challenges highlighted in the National Tourism Sector Strategy, which include a lack of clear tourism research in South Africa as well as policy gaps with regards to development of the sector. The forum's purpose is to create a peer review platform for the Tourism Department's research, knowledge management, monitoring, evaluation and policy development projects.
Bartis and his peers, who serve on the forum on a voluntary basis, will ultimately ensure the credibility of practices in these areas.
