THE gap between pure maths and maths literacy, and the importance of the subject in pupil development, are among topics to take centre stage at the Association of Mathematics Education of South Africa's (Amesa) regional conference this weekend.
Maths lecturers from Eastern Cape universities, teachers and various others involved in teaching the subject will converge at Algoa College for the conference tomorrow.
Walter Sisulu University's Dr Prince Jaca will deliver the keynote address.
Amesa Eastern Cape chairman Dr Vasuthavan Govender said the conference would be broken up into sessions looking at the different levels of maths – foundation, intermediate, senior and further education and training phases.
The conference is open to Amesa members and schools and those wishing to attend can join the association at R120 a person or R340 an institution. - Zandile Mbabela
