UITENHAGE Road was closed for an hour yesterday as angry Missionvale residents burnt tyres and barricaded the road.
The Joe Slovo Ward 41 residents demanded councillor Mbongeni Bungane's office be reopened. The office was closed as a result of internal politics, they said.
Speaking for the protesters, Khayakazi Bedesho said: "The closure of councillor Bungane's office is as a result of a fight within the ANC which started on July 21 after we elected the ANC branch.
"Since then service delivery stopped in this ward."
Bedesho said by closing the road, they wanted those who were responsible to hand over the office keys.
The road was closed from about 9am and was reopened to traffic an hour later.
Bungane, who was also at the protest, managed to calm residents down.
Police spokesman Warrant Officer Alwin Labans said no arrests were made. - Yoliswa Sobuwa
