THERE was no record of the number of gauze plugs inserted inside a Uitenhage woman's caesarean wound, the Port Elizabeth High Court heard yesterday.
Jacoline Dick, 29, is suing the Health Department for R150000 after two pieces of surgical gauze were left inside her wound following a caesarean section at the Uitenhage Provincial Hospital in 2007.
The department has until now refused to claim ownership of or responsibility for the gauze.
The court heard yesterday Dick suffered in pain for months after giving birth before a surgeon found the gauze.
