THE election manifesto issued by the ANC candidate to the public of Ward 5 as their representative in the metro council under the banner of "hope" looked like a plea for divine intervention! Mike McCormack says he can bring "hope" back to the area.
Has he not been made aware of the recent strikes in the Port Elizabeth area by his comrades who don the red T-shirts, demanding excessive wage hikes and bonuses of the employers, as well as bringing the motor industry, that the city depends on for income to pay council projects, to its knees? Is he not aware of the lack of service delivery in most parts of the city, with potholes all over the place, as well as the disaster of the IPTS bus service?
The street verges are overgrown and the city looks tatty, with the exception of the Boardwalk area, which paid for its own makeover. The infrastructure is crumbling because of lack of maintenance.
Is he not aware of the disaster at the City Hall, that it is his party that installed a puppet mayor who caused the municipal manager to resign at the ratepayers' expense? The finances of the city are shaky, to say the least, and it is evident there is no leadership or management in place.
For too long now the ratepayers have suffered the incompetence of the ruling party. He claims he will give heritage sites a new birth.
He is way off track, because the people he claims to represent have no respect for heritage or history. The party you claim to represent is fast destroying the hope of the electorate, with their penchant of self-enrichment by raiding the state coffers!
Instead of having hope in you, I am sure the electorate will have faith in the blue shirted brigade.
