WONDERFUL ECPO CONCERT
WHAT a wonderful performance by the Eastern Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, with its opera and choral gala concert on Sunday, held in the acoustically superb Feather Market Centre. Alexander Fokkens was the excellent conductor, and the soloists, Annemarie Steenkamp, Liske Potgieter, who stood in at the last moment, Phenye Modiane and Aubrey Lodewyk, were all top professional singers. The EC Children's Choir with the NMMU Choir sang so sweetly. There are many good things happening in South Africa these days and this is one of them! We are so privileged to have the excellent Eastern Cape Philharmonic Orchestra in Port Elizabeth. If you missed seeing and hearing it on Sunday, then do go to its next performance. You will be delighted to be there too. Those gifted musicians were given a standing ovation for excellence.
OH wow Mr Fokkens! You gave us an afternoon to remember on Sunday. Beautiful music brilliantly performed, exquisite voices, delightful personalities, great stage presence and an encore, not forgetting the enchanting, crystal clear voices of the choirs. Thank you one and all.
LISKE Potgieter is a phenomenal singer. So proud of our homegrown talent. Hats off to her!
KEEP CRIMINALS OUT
ANYONE with a criminal record should be barred from standing for parliament, for the provincial legislatures and municipalities.
EVENT OF GREAT JOY
THERE are those rare moments of invigorating joy and unity when one wishes the clock would stop. The OR Tambo Memorial Lecture to launch the OR Tambo choral festival was such a moment. Thanks Zizi uKodwa for leading us to look at the ANC with the humble eyes of Tambo. Thanks to Tamkhulu Getrude Tambo who travelled all the way from Bizana, to Oom Ben Fihla for championing the occasion, to the chief whip, Joy Seale, and councillors present and to our choir, Joy of Africa, for setting our spirits on fire. I had tears of hope and joy in my eyes as we reflected on Tambo, the humble, disciplined role model of our beloved ANC, whose values we should emulate. God is good.
OFFICIAL IN BRIBERY SCANDAL
SO it's racism again, George Meko! Sorry comrade, I think not! Pure greed, I would say!
WHY is George Meko stressed? If you are not guilty there is no need to stress and your innocence will be proven via a polygraph test!
WHEN caught out pull the old race card. Works every time.
JB, CENTRAL, PORT ELIZABETH
MEKO, polygraph tests take into account the stress of the test. As you have nothing to hide, do the test like Charles Goodrick did!
WHAT'S HAPPENING WITH CRICKET SA?
WHAT is happening with Cricket SA? Politics again? Even affecting the national team. So sad.
MUCH as I love the Indian cricket team, with wonderful players like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, etc, I very much would like them to stay home rather than SA licking the boots of the bullies of the BCCI.
BARRY DE KLERK
YOU GET PAID FOR DOING JOB, COUNCILLOR
MARSHALL von Buchenroder, this community is eternally grateful to you for so diligently checking street lights and chasing illegal dumpers day in and out. Not forgetting the fat pay cheque you take home every month for your noble efforts.
ENVIOUS FAT CAT
REPLIES TO READERS' COMMENTS
WIND farms: I cannot understand the fuss about wind turbines. People spend a fortune to visit Holland, make sure to view and photograph the windmills, and exclaim how picturesque they are! What is a wind turbine but a latter-day windmill with poor PR? Give them a few decades and they will enjoy the same artistic status as the ubiquitous Karoo windpomp.
OH come on! Rugby is just a game. Does it really matter which team one supports? Get your knickers in a knot over something really important!
PINK ON TREES TOO DARK
PINK trees: who pays for this massive amount of fabric? Donations? By the way the colour is not right, far too dark! Typical South African charity!
PUT THIEVES BEHIND BARS
WE will never get rid of corruption. The ANC gives people warnings for theft. Ghost teachers – if I were in their shoes I would do the same, steal as much as I can and then get a slap on the wrist. In my books fraud is a crime and should go to court. Get these damn thieves behind bars.
AESOP said it centuries ago, but it is still very relevant regarding Jacob Zuma's ANC: "We hang petty thieves and appoint the great ones to political office". A looter continua!
SUPPORTERS of corrupt leaders deserve to be unemployed and living in poverty. That is the fruit of their decisions.
TODAY in history on Monday: Barbara Hogan was jailed for 10 years. Imagine spending 10 years in jail for this bunch of corrupt, racist, lying, thieving...What have I left out? To mix a metaphor, the laugh is on the other foot!
BAD EXPERIENCE AT RESERVATION COUNTER
I WENT to make a reservation for a Johannesburg trip by train. The woman at the counter was not helpful and very unfriendly. Also she was too busy on her phone! Replace her or train her!
NO WORSE CRIMES THAN MURDER, RAPE
THERE can be no worse crimes than rape and murder. If the population of this country knows and understands the consequence of these horrific deeds it will make the individual think twice before perpetrating these crimes.
