IN a dash to the tape Rodney Prins held off the challenge by former Two Oceans winner Mzwanele Maphekula to win the 14km Malabar AC Trail Run at Schoenmakerskop on Saturday.
Prins led from start, and at one stage by more than 30 metres, but a fast-finishing Maphekula closed the gap to a mere three metres.
The ladies' event was won by Tracy Almirall after EP half- marathon champion Jene Banfield, who led for most of the race, missed the turnoff for the last 5km.
Banfield eventually finished third behind Janine Prins.
KEEGAN Cooke was first across the line in Saturday's Hobie Beach Parkrun – his fourth win in four starts – when he completed the 5km course in 17:24.
NMMU student Jarryd Cooke was second in 17:40, with Michael Kingston (18:37) third.
Veteran Margie Saunders (8th overall) was the first woman home, in 20:56, beating Kim Drinkwater (24:29) and Elmarie Botha (25:18).
The run attracted 244 participants, of whom 57 were first- timers and 92 recorded new personal bests.
A free-timed parkrun is held worldwide every Saturday morning, starting at 8am.
