TRAILBLAZING Eastern Cape Sasol Women's League Stream A heavyweights City Lads will play a friendly match against Zwide Football Association's under-17 boys' team at Zwide Stadium tomorrow at 2pm.
The match between City Lads, the Eastern Cape women's football league defending champions, and the under-17 team is part of a build-up towards the provincial women's football final, between City Lads and Stream B league winners, Coastal United Ladies, in Mdantsane next weekend.
In the Eastern Cape, Stream A covers the Nelson Mandela Bay region as well as regions on the Border, while Stream B includes teams from the northern parts of the province, situated in the former Transkei.
Despite going through Stream A unbeaten with 13 wins from 14 matches, New Brighton-based City Lads will have to be at their best if they are to prevail over Mthatha's Coastal United Ladies, who have also drawn only once in their 14 matches.
To win the right to play for the top spot in the province, City Lads had to see off a spirited challenge from second-placed East London outfit Birmingham City, who finished behind them on 32 points.
Coastal United Ladies, in drawing only one of their games, against Red Roses Ladies, finished 17 points ahead of Cumakala FC.
Birmingham City will take on Cumakala FC in the play-off for third and fourth places.
