BRAKES ON THE GRAVY TRAIN
PUT brakes on the gravy train? Unfortunately, Pravin Gordhan, the gravy train departed in 1994 already!
PRAVIN Gordhan's idea of standardised price is R527000 for a car. That's still too high, should drop to R200000. If they want expensive vehicles they can take out vehicle finance.
PRAVIN Gordhan, please make sure that the money saved is not wasted or stolen elsewhere. Why did it take 19 years to identify the problem, 2014 elections looming perhaps?
WISHING Pravin Gordhan lots of luck with his new venture. (He will surely need it!)
BELT-tightening by government officials: will only be believed when we see obese officials physically tightening their belts.
HOW TO STOP THE VIOLENCE
IT's time to introduce shariah (hudud) punishment for criminals. Start chopping off hands for armed robbery, hijackings and tender fraud, and fingers for housebreaking. The money saved from having fewer prisoners and prisons can go towards financing a better deal for policemen.
THE death sentence must come back. How can you rape a two-year-old baby? It means that person is sick or he has got involved in satanism.
NO JUSTICE ON RUGBY FIELD
MICHAEL Rhodes gets a red card and suspension for a stamping incident. For a similar incident Bismarck du Plessis gets a yellow card and no suspension. Why?
NO PROBLEM WITH ALL BLACKS SUPPORTERS
SOME of the northern areas support for the All Blacks stems from the injustices of apartheid against my coloured brothers. Some confusion still remains among this group, due to not being "white" enough in pre-1994 and not being "black" enough in post-1994. I have no problem if my brothers want to support the All Blacks.
BUSES A HAZARD
IPTS buses parking under the Albany Road freeway off ramp in Slater Street are a hazard as oncoming traffic is invisible. Please do something before an accident happens!
DIFFICULT TO GET A SOFT DRINK
THE Octoberfest is definitely not for non-alcohol consumers! On Wednesday I joined the music in the big tent and I really enjoyed the show! But to get a cold drink at the bar counter was a nightmare.
BEWARE WHAT YOU SAY, JZ
JACOB Zuma, remember the Afrikaans saying, waar die hart van vol is, loop die mond van oor (what the heart thinks, the mouth speaks). Beware what you say.

THANKS to the band for cheering up an almost empty St George's. Come on fans, it's summer, let's support our Warriors.
REPLIES TO READERS' COMMENTS
SURVIVALIST in training, at last someone is speaking sense! Add to your list compulsory water storage facilities to all new buildings and compulsory birth control for all school girls over the age of 12 years old!

"EVENT of great joy": DR Galloway refers to "our beloved ANC". Hang your head in shame and read the letter, "Here's how govt can fix country" (October 22), and only when all those wrongs are rectified should you refer to "our beloved ANC".
I AGREE with Leon de Villiers that metro residents must vote the ruling mob out. Now if we can just hope for an alternative that can embrace all inclusively. Pandering to a conservative minority isn't going to do it, DA.
HOSTAGE drama: SPC says, "Let's not judge and condemn." At what point do we excuse criminal behaviour as a "call for help" and offer them "psychological intervention"? Most people, in particular teenagers who commit violent crime, no doubt need psychological intervention and many of them need a plate of nutritious food! I'm not calling for the death penalty, but at what point do we let people off the hook or not hold them accountable when they hurt and terrorise other people?
CHRISTINA Williams out of Idols: come on, John Shirley, get real. This is a competition and she was definitely not in the top five performances. We never got to see the real Melissa Allison perform – it was like watching professional karaoke. In fact, singing was so important to Melissa that she turned to dancing to seek her big break. I love Bunny's style, Noxie's spunk and Musa cool attitude.

I FULLY support the views expressed by Unathi Dulwana in yesterday's Hot Topic. I also dare Ward 19's leader and others to lay bare their achievements, if any!
TO Johnny English, who stated that Graeme Smith should donate his match fee to charity as he did not deserve it (Chirps, Monday), your slating of one of our great batsmen shows how little you know about cricket. Smith has just scored a century! Stick to commenting on draughts or tiddlywinks. Even greats like Donald Bradman and Sachin Tendulkar failed on occasion.

TO Charlotte Chelsea: pink on the trees is a breast cancer initiative and all donations go to the Cancer Association. I love the idea and it is a pleasure driving in Main Road, Walmer. Why complain? Enjoy and know that it's for a good cause.
