BOOSTED by a landslide victory in this week's by-election, the DA yesterday celebrated its 94.5% win, saying it was a sign the party was on the brink of taking charge of Nelson Mandela Bay in 2016.
The party walked away with the bulk of the 2 439 ballots from Ward5, which includes Central, Richmond Hill, North End and Mount Croix. The voter turnout was low, as more than 8000 people were registered to vote.
The DA's Morné Steyn received 2302 votes, beating the ANC's Mike McCormack and the UDM's Ilse Kearns to be the area's new ward councillor.
