A SENIOR employee with no clear job description will pocket almost R92000 a month for the next three years due to a bungle by the leadership of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.
Nobuntu Makapela was appointed as a strategic manager – a political appointment – by former Nelson Mandela Bay deputy mayor Nancy Sihlwayi who was redeployed by the ANC in March.
When her successor, Chippa Ngcolomba, took over, Makapela was fired in April on the basis that her contract was linked to Sihlwayi's term. Makapela took the metro to the South African Local Government Bargaining Council, arguing that she had been unfairly dismissed and won.
