COPE president Mosiuoa Lekota said last night the party's leadership problems had started when Bishop Mvume Dandala had led the party.
Lekota was speaking at the Port Elizabeth City Hall, where he addressed party members behind closed doors. The courts earlier this year ruled that Lekota was the legitimate president after Mbazima Shilowa had claimed the top position.
Dandala also had a stint as the party's leader before resigning. Lekota blamed him for the party's infighting, which saw others leaving COPE.
