ON the deployment of municipal workers ("10 workers to do one job", October 30), travel on Marine Drive opposite the Summerstrand Inn early in the morning and you will find refuse collectors in orange overalls strolling along, shoulder to shoulder, each with a plastic bag in hand.
I am sure half the number of people could do the same amount of work. In the first place the people using the braai areas should not leave such a mess – there are plenty of bins provided.
I cannot understand people who drive down to the beachfront to braai with litter surrounding them when the whole idea is surely to enjoy your surroundings and nature. You may as well go to the tip and braai.
I have also seen cleaning gangs in other areas who saunter along chatting away, cleaning only in their immediate path and then leaving their refuse bags dotted along the road, some of which are almost empty. Also a waste of plastic bags.
