SOUTH Africa's best female racing driver, Tasmin Pepper, has been selected as South Africa's No 1 candidate for the FIA Woman in Motorsport VW Scirocco-R Cup.
Pepper, 23, will travel to Oschersleben, Germany, this month where the selections and tests will take place.
Pepper, who started racing karts at the age of five, won a round of the Engen Volkswagen Cup at Phakisa in August and became the only woman in South Africa to have won a national championship saloon car race outright.
By winning two Formula VW races she is also the only woman to have won rounds of the South African Drivers' Championship.
She also won the X30 Kart championship in 2011 and again last year.
A trip to Europe saw her win the X30 European Woman's Championship last year, by finishing fourth overall against the men in the final in France.
On the international front, she has also competed in five world karting championships and a number of rounds of the Asia Pacific Formula BMW championship which supported Grands Prix in China, Malaysia and Singapore.
