INTERNATIONAL police organisation Interpol has been roped in to help track buyers of electronic goods confiscated from a suspected syndicate at the Port Elizabeth Airport last week.
Osei Tutu, 19, of Ghana, was arrested after port of entry constables Sisonki Mabulu and Msawenkosi Majali recognised one of the men with Tutu as someone they had arrested previously for trying to smuggle goods out of the city.
They asked airport officials to pull their luggage so it could be searched. Sixty cellphones, four iPads and 11 Samsung tablets worth about R200000 and believed to have been stolen in Port Elizabeth, Elliot and Gauteng were found. It is believed the goods were headed for the black market in Ghana.
