EASTERN Province Cricket has been forced into an embarrassing retraction of its retrenchment programme due to a "fatally flawed" process and lack of funds.
EP Cricket was depending on a loan from Cricket South Africa (CSA) to fund the process, but when that did not materialise, the board of directors had no choice but to withdraw the offer.
CSA's EP Cricket facilitator Cassim Docrat said without the loan the process had to be halted. "You can't keep people hanging ... Whether a restructuring process starts six months later or two years later, that's another issue ... But as we stand now, the packages that have been put forward to people have been withdrawn."
