I WRITE in appreciation of the education articles in Tuesday's Herald.
I would like your readers to know that for a number of years now hundreds of Grade 12 pupils from a number of schools in the disadvantaged areas of the Eastern Cape have been going to Rhodes University in Grahamstown for orientation and guidance on what careers they could follow should they go to university the following year. Rhodes pays for travelling expenses of these pupils and gives them lunch for the day they are there.
Ilitha Lemfundo Educational Centre in Kwanobuhle, Uitenhage has been sending 20 to 30 pupils to Rhodes for these occasions which we have found to be very useful and fruitful.
Simon Gqubule, director, Ilitha Lemfundo Educational Centre
