29 February 2012

A WOMAN pretending to be a student nurse has stolen a newborn baby at the Dora Nzinga hospital in Port Elizabeth, the provincial health department said today.

Spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said the woman woke the mother of the baby on Tuesday night and instructed her to take a bath. "When the mother returned, the 'nurse' and baby were nowhere to be found.” Kupelo said the mother had been admitted into hospital for minor complications experienced after giving birth.

He said the department would investigate whether the bogus nurse had administered any care to other patients at the hospital.

The matter had been reported to the police.
