Deejays love PE parties

PORT Elizabeth is proving to be the party destination of choice for 5FM deejays who voted six parties in Nelson Mandela Bay as among the top 15 they attended in their whirlwind 42-party marathon.

Rob Vember and Rob Forbes attended parties from April 19 to April 22 in Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg and Port Elizabeth.

The six parties in Port Elizabeth included a bachelor party, an outside broadcast party at Ballizza, two birthday parties, a party with a cricket team and a visit to Spec-Savers Ironman South Africa to support one of the participants.

Ballizza owner Mark Gaskin said their party had attracted a 1200- strong crowd to the club in Walmer. "The party they had was very good and it coincided with a Playboy party that we had at the club, so having both those two big brands managed to pull in a big crowd,” he said.

"We’ve also been selected to be part of the Takeover Weekend that they will be having with [DJ] Roger Goode and it’s brilliant and quite an honour for us to be selected out of all the clubs in Port Elizabeth.”

The two Robs also invaded Leonard de Andrade’s bachelor party, which he said was a bash to remember.

"I was totally surprised. I was picked up in a car and told that I have the two Robs at my party. It was amazing because I had a red carpet laid out for me and they were there as well as People Magazine, and I didn’t know that they were coming until I got there,” De Andrade said.

"They were there for about two- and-a-half hours and they asked personal questions about my partner which I got wrong, and I had to drink for every one I got wrong. I heard on the radio that they said PE is the party capital and I can believe it.”

The radio station’s deejays have visited Nelson Mandela Bay several times, with their latest visit featuring a performance by drive-time deejay Fresh at Jubilee in Uitenhage.

Next weekend the 5FM crew will be embarking on their first ever Eastern Cape Takeover Weekend, with parties being held in Port Elizabeth, Grahamstown and in East London.

The weekend will start off on Friday, May 25 with night-time show deejay Goode doing a live broadcast with 5FM personalities Vember, Catherine Grenfell and Poppy Ntshongwana from Ballizza.

The next day, deejays C-Live, Rob Forbes, Elma Smit and Nicole da Silva will be partying at Numbers in East London, and on Sunday DJ Euphonik’s night-time segment, My House, will be broadcast from Prime in Grahamstown.
