THE weekend could not have been more topsy- turvy for Rhodes in the EP men’s premier hockey league when they inflicted a rare defeat on NMMU Madibaz, only to lose to the PE varsity B side yesterday.
With several of their players gaining in experience, Rhodes have shown themselves to be competitive against any team and they have pushed all the top sides in the competition.
On Saturday afternoon, they underlined their standing with a 1-0 win over the Madibaz, but then went down to NMMU B 3-2 in a lunchtime encounter yesterday.
On Friday night, the Madibaz started their weekend on the right note with a 5-2 win over Lakeside Cavaliers.
In the women’s premier league, only NMMU Madibaz had a comfortable win as all the remaining games on Saturday were decided on 2-1 margins.
The Madibaz outplayed Uitenhage 6-0 and remain contenders for the title, but Gelvan Tornados kept up their unbeaten run by defeating Rhodes 2-1.
Old Grey A edged St Peter’s by the same margin and NMMU B had a 2-1 win over Old Grey B.
