Beware of letting ‘buyers’ into home

I WOULD like to warn residents with "For Sale” signs outside their homes to be on the alert for two women who drive an old white car (possibly a Mazda, Ford or Datsun). I have my property on the market and was approached by the women on Tuesday.

They claimed to be viewing properties on behalf of their mother, who was relocating to Port Elizabeth. After inquiring about the price and the size of the home, they asked if they could have a quick look inside.

As my wife was ill and lying down, I took the women through the house. One woman then asked to see the outside.

I showed her around the outside, while her mate, unbeknown to me, was "helping herself” inside. When they left, they even took my phone number to arrange a viewing on Sunday as the mother was flying to Port Elizabeth.

It was only some hours later that we discovered the theft of cash, jewellery and other items. I was subsequently told they had visited another nearby house that also had a "For Sale” up, but that the owner turned them away as there was a sale in progress.
