Top cops slammed for free spending

31 May 2012

POLICE top brass are in hot water for spending R1-million of taxpayers’ money on catering and entertainment.

In under two months, R1-million was spent by police management on catering and just under R90000 on entertainment, it emerged in a reply to a parliamentary question.

Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa, who released the reply, was highly critical of the expenditure and has promised action.

There have been several cabinet directives to departments to cut down on non-essential spending such as entertainment, unnecessary travel and accommodation.

Spokesman Zweli Mnisi said those who violated internal policies would face disciplinary procedures.

Last year, R22-million was spent on catering and R2.5-million on entertainment.

Hey Jagster what do you have to say on this one?? Just some more GRAVY TRAIN STUFF!!!! This is just the tip of the iceberg of what the ANC and all their deployed comrades in charge of the departments should be controlling, but there again it is not the average policeman taking people to lunch and doing entertaining, it is the management themselves scoffing up all the bloody money.
