THE ANC has proudly claimed victory over the Brett Murray painting. Some victory! The performance by the ANC leadership has ensured the painting has been on the internet and every newscast throughout the world.
They could have avoided this by being a great deal more dignified over their reaction. There is, however, a point which not has been raised by the media: the painting was done by one of their people, a known supporter and possibly member of the ANC.
Why did they not merely discipline their own member instead of shouting out loud that the episode was one of white on black racism?
In doing so they attempted to label the entire white population as racists. How ridiculous!
Murray, even if possibly not a card-carrying member, was protesting against his own party. The painting portrayed his personal views.
Would the painting have produced the same reaction had it been done by a black artist? As a white patriotic South African, I am tired of being included in the ANC’s repeated declaration that whites are racist every time a racial incident occurs.
Black South Africans have been guilty of racial incidents many times but I do not regard all black people as being racist.
