THE HSBC Sevens World Series rugby tournament will return to Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium for the second edition of a four-year deal in December.
The South African leg of the series in Port Elizabeth was billed as a great success last year and yesterday the International Rugby Board confirmed the series would return as promised.
The city beat off competition from Cape Town, Rustenburg, George and Nelspruit thanks to its "outstanding” proposal last year and did not disappoint. This year’s leg will be played on December 7 and 8. In another development, the IRB also announced the further expansion of the World Series, with Argentina joining as a 10th venue.
The decision to include Argentina reflects the strong global demand to host one of the hottest properties in sport, as Rugby Sevens counts down to its Olympic Games debut in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
