THE sun shone brightly as hosts Glenville enjoyed a successful day in the John Nance junior soccer tournament at the Gelvan playing fields yesterday.
With the group phase done, the serious business got under way with quarterfinal and semifinal action.
Glenville dominated proceedings reaching the finals across four of the five divisions. And it was the under-15 boys who stamped their authority in their semifinal match against Chatty United, which they won 5-0.
The hosts took the game to their opponents and attacked relentlessly. They were, however, confronted with excellent defending from Chatty skipper Logan Shaw.
The deadlock was broken just before the break when striker Dimarco Booysen scrambled the ball over the line.
The passage of play in the second half was similar to that of the first.
The Chatty goalkeeper was under tremendous pressure and after making two remarkable saves, he parried the ball straight at attacker Jayson Simons who gladly netted another one for Glenville.
Glenville scored a fourth shortly thereafter taking advantage of sloppy defending and Keanan Fredricks scored the fifth to complete Chatty’s routing.
The line-up for today’s finals: U-9: Glenville v Rangers (2pm); U-11: Glenville v Rovers (1pm); U-13: Glenville v Rangers (12pm); U-15 Glenville v Two Oceans (11am); U-17: Two Oceans A v Two Oceans B (3pm).
