TONIGHT sees the official launch of the 2012 Jeffreys Bay Billabong Pro surfing tournament, with 144 of the world’s premier surfers gathering to compete for the South African title over the next six days.
Taking place until Sunday, the competition consists of a series of 84 heats in which surfers are judged, scored and ranked by a panel of professional assessors.
As the heats progress, competitors square off until the final round, where a winner is chosen.
With an array of South African bands, DJs and other artists performing at clubs dotted around Jeffreys Bay over the course of the week, the entertainment does not slow down after the sun sets.
National acts such as Goldfish and Die Heuwels Fantasties will keep fans on the dance floor.
The weather is also predicted to be perfect for the event.
