Direct anger at representatives

THE rioters in Walmer Township have good reason to be discontent. Their quality of life has improved little since 1994, despite endless empty promises from national and regional government.

But the anger is misdirected. Blocking off roads, damaging and/or stealing from private property, and inconveniencing the public is not the way to gain support. They are acting against the very people who pay rates and taxes that make possible the delivery of RDP houses, services (such as they are) and grants.

Grants are often the people’s only income.

This anger needs to be directed at those who purport to represent and serve them, the same people who have enriched themselves at an indecent rate from the common purse while failing in their duty.
