THE teachers at Booysen Park Senior Secondary School conducting the extra lessons at Sumcay near Despatch need to be congratulated and applauded for the effort they are putting in to see to it that their charges attain university acceptable results ("Winter bootcamp for teachers, kids”, July 11). A carrot has been dangled in front of these and future matrics at this school by Coca-Cola Fortune in the form of payment for studies for all those who pass at the end of the year.
Parents in and around this school should be helping behind the scenes as well, for the ground work laid here will even benefit them as well over time.
Thank you to our local municipality for helping with accommodation and meals in this noble endeavour that surely cannot go unrecognised. Thanks to Coca-Cola Fortune for the future envisaged educational funding for our community in Port Elizabeth at large.
Most of all thank you to the teachers for offering up their valuable time and expertise during their mid-year holiday and rest period. You are the unsung heroes in my eyes and you should be nominated for community service accolades of the highest order as a whole in this regard.
May you go from strength to strength knowing that the kids will go on and do you extraordinarily proud, when they are capped at tertiary institutions over time.
Their families and the community at large will also benefit enormously as time unfolds.
If only all previously disadvantaged schools could be adopted in this fashion by private sector business stalwarts.
