Madiba's magic day

THE rural Eastern Cape village of Qunu will be abuzz with activity today as the world celebrates the 94th birthday of one of the most revered world icons, Nelson Mandela.

High-profile guests will make their way to the former Transkei to honour Mandela, who is affectionately known the world over as Madiba.

Friend and former US president Bill Clinton and his daughter, Chelsea, visited the former statesman yesterday to wish him well on his big day.

Today, Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula, Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga and Mandela’s ex-wife, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, will visit.

Former presidency director-general Frank Chikane kicked off a three-day conference in honour of Mandela’s legacy yesterday. Sexwale is to deliver a lecture titled "Making of the Nelson Mandela legacies”.
