Chairman's youth no barrier to role

THE election of Sandiso Makwetu to the ANCYL chairmanship is influenced by his intellectual capacity and by not his mother being a councillor ("ANCYL puts trust in teen”, July 10).

Age is just a number and you do not have to be old to be clever.

Age has nothing to do with it for someone to serve in a leadership position.

The congress has seen the skill and ability from him to lead the youth organisation.

He might be young and inexperienced, but he has to be at the helm in order to acquire experience. I am also worried because there is an intellectual vacuum in our young people.

I just hope his ability, vibrancy and energy can steer the youth organisation in the right direction and also to greater heights. I am praying that he won’t be drawn into the factions of the organisations.
