IN a surprise result, Aryan A lost their unbeaten record in the EP table tennis league this week when they went down to Booysens Pride.
Missing captain Rajesh Bhana, Aryan could not match the fine form of Michael de Kock and Devin Langford, goind down 8-3.
In an exciting encounter, NMMU edged St Marks and St Johns 6-5, with Prishen Ryan shading Greg Tarr 9-11 12-10 11-6 in the decide to clinch it for the varsity team.
In the remaining match, Aryan B were outplayed by Olympia A, with Monde Cola winning all his matches for an 8-3 result.
Following the provincial trials in East London five players from Nelson Mandela Bay made the provincial team. – Dipal Bhana, Kurt Adams, Michael de Kock, Thembelani Magodla and Vernal Higgins. They will play in the SA interprovincial in Benoni in September.
In the SA Veterans interprovincial held last week in Pretoria, EP were represented by Rajesh Bhana, Shahied Mamoojee, Neil Hendricks, Greg Tarr and Thiagasen Pather. Bhana and Pather lost in the quarterfinals of the 40 singles division.
In the singles Bhana (40 age-group) and Pather (50 age-group) reached the last eight before being knocked out.
IT will be akin to the running of the bulls when Eastern Province’s athletes hit the road in Bluewater Bay tomorrow. Only this time, the challenge will be the "refreshment” stations on the 6km course.
Starting at the Scout Hall at the bottom of Tippers Creek at 2pm, the "waterholes” will have wine, tequila and sherry available. The entry fee is R30 for a book of tickets for five "refreshments”.
