NMMU Madibaz finished the first round of the Grand Challenge on top of the log after their convincing 28-10 victory against Progress at Uitenhage Central Fields at the weekend.
The Madibaz made it 12 wins after 13 games with 59 points following a game of errors and poor decision-making, with the weather making for difficult conditions.
The Madibaz were in control of the game from the first to the last whistle. Tries from Milo Nqoro and Gerrit Smith ensured the students went to the break leading 14-3 after Smith had converted them.
Madibaz enjoyed more territory as they were accurate in their kicking and camped inside Progress’s half.
Progress pushed forward and were rewarded with a converted try, but second half tries by Eckard Jacobs and Smith ensured the victory for the visitors. Smith also converted both tries.
