EASTERN Cape teachers and education students will this week receive tips on how to make the most of the education situation.
Education experts and experienced teachers will address a seminar organised by the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) on Friday.
National educator Gavin Keller will speak on modern-day learning and how 21st-century pupils, dubbed Generation Y, can be taught effectively.
Keller, who heads the Sun Valley Group of Schools in Cape Town, will also share his experiences in the teaching profession.
Lecturers from the university will explain how mathematics and science teaching can be made "more fun”.
NMMU mathematics education lecturer Vuyani Matsha said one of the purposes of the seminar was to inspire and motivate teaching students, especially those discouraged by the state of affairs in the Education Department.
"Looking at the education situation in our country at the moment, and our province in particular, it is clear that something drastic needs to be done to motivate teachers, pupils and students to turn the situation around by presenting fun things and modern technologies to teaching.”
The seminar will cost teachers R95, while students will pay R50.
