THE Essen School Karate, which was established more than 30 years ago, has achieved a coup by embarking on a direct linkage with the Organisation of Meibukan Goju Ryu, where karate originated in China.

In June, shihan Tommie Mannie, sensei Hezaron Essen and Lyle Koopman (15) spent three weeks in Okinawa in Japan to train and to apply the lessons they learnt to their South African colleagues.

The Essen school of Karate are licensed directors of Goju Ryu Meibukan in South Africa.

Sensei Essen achieved his Protea colours 1998 and coached the national team from 2007-2009.



THE end of the EP table tennis league third round ended in easy victories for the top sides, with Olympia A beating St Marks and St Johns 10-1, and Booysens Pride having a similar win over Aryan C.

For Olympia, Selvan Sammy and Monde Cola won all their matches.

Booysens Pride also won 10-1, with Vernal Higgins and Michael de Kock showing fine form.

Following the provincial trials in East London, five Nelson Mandela Bay players made the provincial team for for the tournament in Benoni, starting on September 29. They are Dipal Bhana, Kurt Adams, Michael de Kock, Thembelani Magodla and Vernal Higgins.



ALL baseballers are invited to a function at the Old Delta Baseball Club in Stella Londt Drive on Sunday (noon). There will be a bring and braai after the EP squad practice.
