I AM appalled at your naming of a Port Elizabeth general practitioner (GP) as hooligan of the day.
The average age of a GP in South Africa is close to 60, and the concerted campaign by the public and the Health Professions Council of South Africa to discredit them will drive senior doctors into retirement and junior doctors out of the country.
The majority of GPs are caring individuals who have dedicated their lives to helping others. They are essential to the healthcare of the nation, and I would ask people to examine how they regard and treat their family GP.
Patients have rights. They also have responsibilities.
The way things are going, there will be no doctors left for the younger generation.
