ANC regional head Nceba Faku has come out guns blazing, vowing he will never back down on his quest to have Nelson Mandela Bay mayor Zanoxolo Wayile and his team of executives removed because they are "incompetent”.
Faku was responding to criticism by some of the country’s biggest trade unions who called yesterday for him and his cronies to be disciplined for holding the city to ransom and stifling service delivery and development.
In a joint press statement yesterday, the National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa), SA National Civic Organisation (Sanco) and the SA Municipal Workers’ Union (Samwu) demanded a probe into allegations that ANC leaders were behind the hostage drama involving Wayile last week.
This followed recent calls by organised business, religious leaders, tripartite alliance partners and former ANC leaders for a speedy resolution to the internal strife in the city, which was driving away investors and causing anarchy.
