HUMILITY is what makes Hashim Amla great. All his achievements on the cricket pitches of the globe are due to humility and a great work ethic.
Here is a man who was criticised by the know-all commentators a few years ago because of his technique: he was never ever going to make the grade. His stance, poor shot selection and his out of the ordinary looks were mocked.
His story is indeed an amazing one. This is a man we can all learn from. He must have felt alone many a time when he was mocked all over the world purely because of his religious beliefs. Today he stands tall.
How some people must be hiding in shame. Some of his biggest fans are probably the same idiots who ridiculed this great man.
Amla is a true hero of the people. How proud his teammates must be of this humble man who is always willing to play for the team.
We South Africans can learn a valuable lesson here. We can co-exist and be friends regardless of our difference in cultures and beliefs.
Only then can we become a great nation again, one willing to forgive and forget.
