No funds, Metro short of 32 Lifeguards
THE Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has only five permanent lifeguards in its employ and it needs at least another 32.
A report by economic development and recreational services director Zolile Siswana said the sports, recreation, arts and culture portfolio committee's decision to employ an additional three lifeguards could not be implemented due to lack of funding. – Rochelle de Kock
Public pools open next month
ALL public pools in Nelson Mandela Bay will be open for use next month, despite budget constraints for adequate maintenance.
The acting director of sports, Ndileka Leqela, said the municipality needed about R28-million to maintain the pools, but only had R3-million available to do so.
She said the McArthur swimming baths needed to be upgraded urgently as the pipes were severely rusted. – Rochelle de Kock
